Abstract

Tire derived geo-materials, due to their low carbon emission capability when used as construction materials, can be considered as sustainable geo-materials, and thus, can contribute towards climate change adaptation. This paper describes some of the techniques, which were developed through innovative use of wastes tires in the field of geotechnical engineering, with special emphasis on geo-disaster reduction. Recycling of waste tires and disaster mitigation in the context of Japanese experiences are focused here. The evaluation of those techniques through 1 g model tests are described in this paper. In addition, the dynamic properties of such sustainable materials under cyclic loading are evaluated.
